Job Description What You Will Be Doing:
This position plans, manages, supervises, and controls all the activities necessary for the development and preliminary design of multiple capital improvement projects from small to large, varying in complexity. You will coordinate the efforts of in‑house design staff and/or private architectural/engineering consultants, functional groups within the Department, and other outside agencies. Responsibilities include supervising professional engineering staff, mentoring in project management, design, and consultant contract management.

Civil Engineering : Knowledge of planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining public works systems.
Oral and Written Communication : Effective presentation and listening skills.
Organizational Awareness : Understanding of DOT&PF policies and procedures.
Teamwork : Ability to foster cooperation and group spirit.
Managing Performance : Setting expectations, tracking progress, and addressing performance issues.
Special Note Position requires registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect in the state of Alaska. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineer/Architect 2 : Registration as a PE or Architect and one year of professional experience as Engineered/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska.
Engineer/Architect 3 : Registration as a PE or Architect and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience.
Required Information at Interview
Copy of your Professional Engineering (P.E.) or Professional Architecture license number.
Three professional references (name, title, phone).
Copy of valid driver’s license.
Flexibly Staffed This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 2 or 3 level. Starting salary depends on the level hired. Promotion to the higher level occurs after successful completion of the probationary period and required training.
