Vice President of Accounting and Finance Self Storage Plus is the 11th largest self‑storage property management company in the U.S. and the largest privately‑owned operator in the Mid‑Atlantic. Since 2018 the company has expanded from 25 to 100 properties totaling nearly 8 million square feet, serving the Washington‑Baltimore and Southeast regions with the mission to give customers "Room to Pursue Life®".

The Vice President of Accounting and Finance is a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership, driving financial strategy and managing the company’s financial operations across all subsidiaries. In this senior role the VP will oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, and strategic financial management of this rapidly growing self‑storage company. Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP ensures the company’s financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting are robust while maintaining day‑to‑day operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership

Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and execute financial strategy aligned with business goals.

Provide leadership on financial planning, cash flow management, investment priorities, and policy development.

Serve as a key advisor on growth initiatives, acquisitions, and capital markets transactions (equity, debt, and joint ventures).

Maintain transparent communication with the CEO and ownership regarding the company’s financial position, risks, and opportunities.

Orchestrate information and communication sharing within the organization and with key third parties, keeping stakeholders informed of all critical issues.

Accounting, Reporting & Controls

Oversee all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting team, ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting standards.

Implement and continuously improve systems, processes, and internal controls to support timely, accurate, and insightful reporting.

Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including financial statements, management reports, and external and third‑party reporting.

Manage relationships with tax advisors and financial institutions.

Operations & Systems Management

Evaluate and upgrade accounting technology systems and processes to enhance scalability, automation, and accuracy.

Partner with operations and development teams to streamline transaction processing, budgeting, cash forecasting, and revenue management.

Oversee treasury management and cash flow optimization.

Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency across departments.

Build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing accounting and finance team.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development.

Implement effective team structures and performance management aligned with company goals.

Serve as a bridge between accounting, operations, and senior management, ensuring alignment and shared objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership in senior management, including external audit and in‑house financial management.

Proven ability to operate in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial, high‑growth environment.

Experience in self‑storage, commercial real estate, hospitality, or related property management required.

Demonstrated success leading teams and developing talent.

Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

Hands‑on, self‑reliant, and results‑oriented, balancing tactical execution and strategic vision.

Proficient with modern accounting and ERP systems; technology‑forward mindset.
