Job Description General Statement of Responsibilities The Clinic Dentist is responsible for prescribing and interpreting radiographs, overseeing radiographic and local anesthesia procedures, and ensuring compliance with safety, infection control, and program protocols. Duties include assessing patient conditions, managing referrals, providing emergency care, and supervising/evaluating students' clinical performance in radiology, anesthesia, charting, and related procedures. The position requires maintaining a clinical presence during patient care, documenting in Axium Ascend, and actively participating in program meetings and quality standards. Position to be filled for the Spring 2026 semester.

Examples of Duties

Ensure appropriate radiographic prescriptions are issued in accordance with clinical protocols and individual patient needs.

Oversee all radiographic activities to ensure adherence to established standards, including:

Compliance with radiation safety and infection control regulations.

Verification of proper patient positioning and aseptic technique.

Confirmation of accurate exposure settings.

Observation of radiographic sensor and cone alignment.

Guidance regarding retakes and related documentation.

Review of radiographs for technical accuracy and diagnostic value.

Interpretation of radiographic findings within scope of practice.

Verification of accurate charting and recordkeeping of radiographic data.

Assurance of timely referrals based on radiographic findings.

Assess and identify clinical findings requiring further evaluation and ensure appropriate referral to a dentist or physician.

Authorize the use of local anesthesia when clinically indicated.

Administer local anesthesia as required for patient care.

Provide direct supervision of students administering local anesthesia, ensuring safety and compliance with all regulatory standards.

Monitor and evaluate student progress and competency in all areas related to local anesthesia administration.

Provide immediate assistance and oversight during emergency care situations in the dental hygiene clinic.

Evaluate and triage patients presenting for dental emergencies, ensuring referral to the appropriate dental professional or specialist.

Provide dental evaluations for all clinic patients and radiographic patients as needed.

Authorize prescriptions for adjunctive products (e.g., chlorhexidine gluconate, fluoride paste, amorphous calcium phosphate) when indicated by clinical findings.

Oversee and assess student performance and compliance with protocols for impressions/scanning, study models, and whitening procedures.

Supervise and evaluate foundational skills of first–year students in dental charting and occlusal assessment.

Complete Axium Ascend evaluations for radiology, charting/occlusion, and local anesthesia; ensure accurate entry of all faculty assessments and patient data into Axium Ascend.

Maintain professional presence in the dental hygiene clinic throughout all active clinical sessions until all patients are dismissed.

Participate in scheduled Dental Hygiene faculty meetings and calibration sessions as part of program operations.

Implement and uphold all established Dental Hygiene Program protocols and procedures as directed by institutional policy and accreditation standards.

Requirements Minimum Qualifications

Current Massachusetts Dental License.

Demonstrated teaching experience.

Appropriate academic credentials.

Professional experience in the field.

Unrestricted authorized to work in the United States.

Additional Information Compensation $95.00/hour; Mondays/Wednesdays and occasional Fridays: 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; 1:30–5:30 p.m. Part‑time, non‑benefited MCCC Unit Position.
