Summary:

The Cashier/Receptionist intercepts and routes incoming calls, takes thorough messages, and provides basic information to callers. S/he also receives cash from customers and employees in payment for goods or services and records the amount received in an accurate manner. S/he is the dealership's front-line contact with the public and must represent the dealership in a professional, friendly manner at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Answer incoming calls and direct calls accordingly. Communicate with callers in a professional, friendly and efficient manner, striving to minimize the time they are put on hold. Take thorough messages, indicating the caller's first and last name, company name if applicable, the time, and the message the caller wishes to leave. Communicate messages to the appropriate parties in a timely manner. Refer customers who have additional questions (e.g., questions about their repair order) to the service advisor or other appropriate individual. Perform other clerical duties as needed, such as typing, filing, sorting mail and proofreading. Receive cash, checks and credit card payments from customers and record the amount received. Compute or recompute the customer's bill using the dealership's computer system. Make change, cash checks and issue receipts to customers. Operate cash register. Ascertain and record totals shown on cash register tape and verify against cash on hand. Work with department managers to keep abreast of new products and services offered, their features and value, and any changes in price. Handle customer complaints with integrity and poise and take or refer the complaining customer to the appropriate individual for further communication. Give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Qualifications:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Must speak clearly on the telephone and convey an image of professionalism and competence to callers. Must be able to convey messages to employees clearly and quickly. Must be able to judge when employees should and should not be interrupted, e.g., when a salesperson is with a customer. Professional personal appearance.

Work Environment:

The Cashier/Receptionist works at a cashier's window for all of the shift. Will work with cash register, computer, and adding machine. Will work with the public. (If in the service department: May be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.)
