Overview
COLLEGE CO-OP (WASTEWATER TREATMENT) (ENGINEERING & SCADA). The Metropolitan Sewer District offers college co-op opportunities for the Spring semester, with the aim of exposing undergraduate engineering students to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry, with emphasis in mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines. Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of the project manager or a member of WWT staff, perform assigned work by applying established engineering principles and theories to practical applications. Interact with plant personnel including management, administrative, operations, maintenance, and plant engineering staff. Support operations/maintenance staff; assist with process equipment and system design, startup, and project management; contribute to capital project reviews, drafting/solid modeling and field investigations; contractor field coordination. Participate in field coordination of process improvement projects at the district’s WWTPs, pump stations, and related facilities; conduct WWTP walkdowns and inspect and address wastewater process equipment and electrical service requests; assist with startup and closeout activities for mechanical and electrical facility systems. Update underground piping drawings and CIP reference maps in AutoCAD; assist with surveys and utility investigations as needed. Support deliverables and documentation, including end-of-semester reports and project records. Learning Objectives & Deliverables
Learning objectives include applying knowledge to analyze and solve practical engineering problems in mechanical or electrical disciplines under supervision. Deliverables include work outcomes aligned with education level, and end-of-semester documentation and reports. Spring 2026 deliverables include: desk phone, computer, and project-related tasks as defined by the project team. Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a college student in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field. U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to work in the United States; individuals under eighteen require a work permit. Must submit a City job application and be able to pass a drug screen and background check. Education & Experience
Must be actively taking college classes in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering program and be available to work 32–40 hours per week. How to Apply
