Overview

Lead Engineer-Studies — Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Lead Engineer for Power System Studies, responsible for a broad range of detailed engineering designs for high voltage substation, collection, and transmission system for utility scale Wind, Solar and Storage projects. The main focus of this role is to lead the Power Systems Studies team, including QA/QC and stamping reports for Short Circuit, Reactive Power, Losses in PSSE; TOV and Harmonics in PSCAD and Arc Flash in ETAP. This role also includes resource management for the studies team, coordinating schedules and priorities, and communicating results to stakeholders and project owners as the subject matter expert on the studies performed. Hiring Locations: Preferred: Minneapolis, MN, Fargo, ND, San Antonio, TX, or Denver, CO. Remote locations would be considered with periodic travel. Responsibilities

Managed other team members and worked through personnel issues successfully Managed team scheduling and balancing competing priorities for successful implementation of the work for the team Responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate the overall design package and requirements Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria by using judgment in making adaptations and modifications and providing interpretations and conclusions with support from other Engineers Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision-makers, project teams, etc.) Perform data analysis and basic engineering calculations required for designs from low voltage through 500 kV substations Assist with the review and approval of equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction Mentor, coach and develop junior team members Assist higher and lower-level engineers in the completion of large complex projects Support studies methodology development that shapes analysis practices aligned with customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects Verify that construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings Assist in the implementation of a QA/QC process Assist in the development and evaluation of the technical requirements for procurement and construction packages Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions Experience in electrical power engineering theories and principles Experience in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to travel up to 15% Qualifications

Degree accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum 10+ years of related work experience in system studies, ideally for wind, solar, storage projects, including modeling inverter generation systems with understanding of power flows, short circuit, reactive power, losses, TOV, harmonics and arc flash; ability to communicate results in report and verbally Professional Engineering (PE) certification Strongly preferred Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related program Base pay

The base pay range for this role is $108,600 - $162,900. (Actual range is higher for some office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Benefits
