We are seeking a
Director of Technical Services
to lead our mission to advance literacy and numeracy outcomes and unlock the potential of children in Sierra Leone. This role is instrumental in designing, delivering, and scaling tablet-based learning solutions that empower children to become literate and numerate. The Director will join a highly committed and collaborative team working to ensure every child can achieve their full potential. They will work directly with the
Executive Director of our Sierra Leone operations
and the
Head of Technology and Supply Chain , managing our path to the national adoption of our edtech program in Sierra Leone. The
Director of Technical Services
will take overall responsibility for technology, supply chain management, inventory management, TSP management, repairs and maintenance, and health and safety requirements for our tablet learning programs in Sierra Leone. Additionally, they will work towards the institutionalization of the program in selected regions in collaboration with the
Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education (MBSSE). Responsibilities
Technology Leadership:
Oversee the country’s technology strategy, ensuring infrastructure reliability and program monitoring. Program Implementation:
Develop and manage technology plans, budgets, and schedules for existing and new sites. Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with the Ministry and advocate for our technology and data strategy, ensuring effective communication between our organization, ISPs, TSPs, and the Ministry. Technical Service Provider (TSP) Management:
Oversee sourcing, vetting, and coordination of ISPs & TSPs for solar, internet, and hardware installations. Software & Hardware Quality Assurance:
Manage testing, registration, and rollout of hardware/software updates. Training & Capacity Building:
Train ICT staff, ISPs, and Ministry stakeholders on software updates, data collection, and issue resolution. Data Management:
Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and reliability across tablets, servers, and network infrastructure. School Installations & Logistics:
Oversee installation plans, inventory management, asset tracking, and outbound logistics. Repairs & Maintenance:
Develop and implement a sustainable reverse logistics and repair strategy. Health & Safety Compliance:
Implement policies for electrical safety, theft prevention, and e-waste disposal. Process Optimization:
Standardize and improve operational systems to scale and sustain the program long-term. Qualifications
10+ years of proven work experience as a technical or engineering executive or in a similar role. At least 5 years of experience managing a team, preferably in an NGO context. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Technology, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, IT Project Management, or any engineering discipline. Ability to communicate technical information clearly, with excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Experience managing multi-site and multi-vendor IT projects. Proven facilitation and technical training skills with diverse audiences. Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software. Experience with both iOS and Android operating systems; Mac OS experience is beneficial. Familiarity with using GitHub issues or similar tools to report and triage bugs. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to proactively manage and resolve conflicts. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to adapt strategies to address complex operational challenges. Experience working in multicultural environments and teams. Proactive problem-solving and issue-resolution skills. Passion for our mission and vision, with a demonstrated commitment to equity in educational access and outcomes. Enthusiasm for supply chain management and logistics. Strong analytical and independent problem-solving abilities. A collaborative team player with clear and proactive communication skills.
