Senior IAM Product Manager – Location: U.S. Remote. Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the Identity & Access Management (IAM) program as a domain expert and key individual contributor. This role requires an experienced professional with deep expertise in enterprise identity solutions, driving the vision and execution of a platform modernization initiative across engineering, architecture, security, and design. The ideal candidate blends strong technical acumen in identity management and cloud architecture with top-tier product management skills to deliver on the program’s roadmap. The role emphasizes innovation in the software development lifecycle, leveraging generative AI and intelligent agents to enhance product development and user experiences. This is a remote-friendly role, with a preference for working hours aligned with U.S. Eastern Time, and offers the opportunity to shape the future of PVS’s platform at a strategic level. Responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Roadmaps: Develop and own the product strategy and multi-year roadmap for the PVS Identity & Access Management program, aligning with platform modernization goals. Define phased milestones and outcomes and communicate the vision to stakeholders and teams. Identity & Access Management: Guide the IAM program to build a next-generation identity solution for PVS. Oversee a unified identity service for all user types (students, caretakers, teachers, administrators); implement modern authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0/OIDC, SAML), single sign-on (SSO), and robust user lifecycle management. Emphasize security, privacy, user experience, and compliance (e.g., FERPA, GDPR). Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as product lead coordinating cross-functional teams (engineers, architects, security specialists, UX/UI designers, business stakeholders). Influence and lead without direct managerial authority to drive decisions and align timelines. Product Development Lifecycle Innovation: Introduce and champion the use of generative AI and agent-driven tools in product development, exploring how AI can assist with discovery, market research, requirements, coding, testing, or analytics to improve efficiency and quality. Execution & Delivery: Oversee end-to-end execution from concept to launch and iteration. Create roadmaps and PRDs, define features and acceptance criteria in partnership with Agile teams, and maintain a well-groomed backlog. Prioritize features by impact, value, and effort; ensure on-time delivery and adapt plans as needed. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Product Vertical leaders, Program/Project Managers, and executives to meet the needs of learning products and operational teams. Communicate progress and next steps; represent the voice of the customer and business to ensure capabilities improve user experience and platform capabilities. Technical Depth & Decision-Making: Use a strong technical background to make informed product decisions. Understand identity management systems, authentication flows, and cloud architecture; trade off approaches with architects and engineers while ensuring scalability and security. Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current on identity, security, and AI/ML trends. Identify opportunities to adopt new technologies or practices; pilot AI agents or other innovations and scale successful experiments into features. Measurement & Accountability: Define KPIs and success metrics for the IAM program (e.g., authentication success rates, support-ticket reductions, onboarding efficiency). Use data to inform decisions and demonstrate value. Mentoring and Leadership (Individual Contributor): Mentor junior product managers and product owners, sharing expertise across the PM organization and fostering best practices in technical product management and AI adoption within the SDLC. Qualifications
Required
– Experience: 8+ years in product management, with multiple years in platform or technical product management roles. Proven end-to-end delivery, ideally including IAM or related technical platforms. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority. Domain Expertise : Strong knowledge of IAM principles and technologies; familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, directory services or identity providers, user lifecycle management, and security/privacy compliance (FERPA, GDPR). Technical Acumen : Comfortable discussing complex designs with architects and engineers. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern architecture (microservices, APIs, event-driven). Understanding AI/ML concepts and their application to products. Leadership & Collaboration : Excellent cross-functional leadership, stakeholder management, and communication. Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and working with engineering on user stories, backlog prioritization, and sprint planning. Innovation Mindset : Enthusiasm for cutting-edge technologies, especially generative AI, automation, and intelligent agents. Track record of driving innovation and continuous learning. Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred. MBA or advanced degree a plus. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education. Identity & Access Management design, implementation, and scaling for complex SaaS platforms; familiarity with FERPA, GDPR and optimizing user experiences while protecting data. EdTech and Data Standards: Experience in education technology or data-driven industries; familiarity with standards like Ed-Fi or LTI is a plus. AI/ML Projects: Experience with AI-powered product features or integrating AI into product management processes. Cloud & Security Certifications: Certifications such as AWS, CIPP, CISSP, or similar indicating data protection expertise. Leadership in Matrix Organizations: Experience influencing senior leadership across multiple teams in a large organization.
