Nature of Work
Skilled work in the operation of moderately heavy trucks, automotive and heavy equipment, including dump, high side, pick up and hand crew trucks.
Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the referenced equipment and safety of co-workers who may be part of a crew of Waste Collectors when applicable. An employee in this class regularly and normally performs related loading and unloading duties when required. Functional supervision may be received from a Waste Equipment Operator, Sanitation Supervisor, or other higher-level administrative official who gives oral and written work assignments and inspects work in progress and upon completion.

Essential Functions
Drives a large straight frame type truck on assigned rubbish waste collection route, and makes regular trips to area disposal sites, including transfer stations, City parks, and/or other facilities, asdirected.
Regularly and normally performs related loading and unloading duties when required.
Prepares daily driver equipment report sheet.
Performs operator level maintenance work in heavy equipment.
Uses assigned tablet to complete daily route.
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Requirements
Six (6) months of experience in the operation of trucks or related heavy automotive equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B) or higher must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment in the classification.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Must be willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends on a regular basis.

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:
A. Utility bill dated within 60 days of the date of submission
B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D.
C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission
D. Properly executed valid lease agreement
E. Homestead Exemption dated within 1 year of the date of submission

City of Miami residents are granted selection preference over non-City of Miami residents within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process.
Selection Preference: Selection preference within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process will be granted in the following order: 1) preference eligible veterans, 2) active City of Miami employees, 3) City of Miami residents, 4) all others.
