Overview
Skilled work in the operation of moderately heavy trucks, automotive and heavy equipment, including dump, high side, pickup, and hand‑crew trucks. The role requires responsible, safe, and efficient operation of the equipment and attention to the safety of co‑workers who may be part of a waste‑collector crew. Functional supervision may be received from a waste equipment operator, sanitation supervisor, or other higher‑level administrative official who provides oral and written work assignments and inspects work in progress and upon completion.
Responsibilities
- Drive a large straight‑frame truck on assigned rubbish waste collection routes, making regular trips to transfer stations, city parks, and other facilities as directed.
- Perform loading and unloading duties as required.
- Prepare daily driver equipment report sheets.
- Perform operator‑level maintenance work in heavy equipment.
- Use assigned tablet to complete daily route.
- Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications
- Six (6) months of experience operating trucks or related heavy automotive equipment.
- Valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or higher.
Special Requirements
- A valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or higher must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources at the time of application and must be maintained valid throughout employment.
- Must be willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends on a regular basis.
Veterans Preference
Veterans Preference is awarded in accordance with Florida State Statute 295.07. If veteran's preference is being claimed, it must be indicated on the application form and proper documentation—including all DD‑214 (Member 4) and applicable FDVA‑Veteran's Preference Certification Forms—must be submitted with the employment application.
City of Miami Residents Preference
City of Miami residents and new hires receive selection preference over non‑City of Miami residents within the same ranking band. Preference is granted if any two of the following documents are submitted at the time of application and again at interview time:
- Utility bill dated within 60 days.
- Valid Florida Driver License or State‑issued I.D.
- Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year.
- Valid lease agreement.
- Homestead Exemption dated within 1 year.
- Motor Vehicle Registration dated within 90 days.
- Official school records or transcripts dated within 90 days.
- W‑2 (or 1099) Tax Form dated within 1 year.
