Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a Fire Protection Engineer in Richland, WA. This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD). Our Fire Protection Engineering group is seeking a dynamic Fire Protection Engineer with outstanding technical and problem-solving abilities and has interpersonal relationship-building and excellent time-management skills. Our mission is to minimize the likelihood of occurrence of a fire-related event, minimize the consequence of a fire-related event affecting the operating facility, workers, public, environment, and property, and provide a level of safety protection consistent with the "highly protected risk" class of industrial risks. The Fire Protection Engineer will support the Fire Protection Program Manager for all Fire Protection Program related matters. Responsibilities
Under general supervision, incorporate conventional engineering and scientific practices associated with the HLMI Fire Protection Program. Provide Fire Protection Engineering technical support to the overall organization and mission. Assist with implementation of the Fire Protection Program, perform peer reviews, assist the Hanford Fire Marsal with fire investigations, assist in the resolution of fire system discrepancies/non-compliances, and support the preparation of exemptions/equivalency/deviation requests. Assure that fire hazards are controlled/mitigated, that life safety is maintained, and that facilities and operations are in compliance with DOE contract requirements, NFPA codes and standards, and other applicable statutory requirements. Support new and remodel construction activities by reviewing and contributing to project specifications, drawings, and other associated project documents, developing or contributing to fire system acceptance test procedures, assisting with and witnessing fire protection related structures/systems/components post modification testing, and ensuring fire protection equipment procurement is within compliance with DOE and statutory fire protection requirements, standards, and recommended practices. Review and approve fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance work packages to assure compliance with NFPA and manufacturer recommendation/specifications. Interface with the Hanford Fire Marshal (HFM) and, when qualified as a Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM), will function on the behalf of the HFM in performing DFM responsibilities as described in the Hanford Fire Marshal’s Charter. Disseminate fire protection information to management to keep them advised of changes, special problem issues, and/or new requirements related to the Fire Protection Program. Establish and interpret fire protection policies, codes, standards, requirements, and maintain program procedures applicable to operations, activities, projects, and facilities. Review and revise the Fire Hazard Analyses and writes/revises Fire Hazards Evaluations. Assist in requests for exemptions, variances, deviations, or equivalency evaluations from fire protection standards and requirements. Perform fire protection facility assessments to determine compliance with applicable DOE Orders (DOE O 420.1C), and prescribed standards and ensure any deficiencies are maintained in the deficiency tracking system until corrected. Perform comprehensive Fire Protection Program self-assessments. Attend training courses to maintain proficiency in the mandatory fire protection standards of the program. Assist with the fire protection overview of subcontractor activities and facilities. Provide technical assistance to DOE. Minimum Requirements
BS in Fire Protection Engineering, Engineering, or related technical field with 7-10 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with International Building Code, NFPA, Federal and state occupational safety and health requirements that impact facility safety and equipment design. Meets the qualifications for Professional Member Grade in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers OR has a Professional Member grade in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers OR is a Registered Professional Fire Protection Engineer. Current appointment as Hanford Deputy Fire Marshal. Experience supporting an operating chemical laboratory. At least 5 years’ experience performing Fire Protection Engineering duties at any DOE Complex, DOE National Laboratory, or commercial nuclear power plant. Understanding of and demonstrated previous application of DOE Orders/Standards. Compensation
Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Grade 18: $106,663 - $134,588 Grade 19: $117,225 - $147,775 Grade 20: $129,063 - $162,688 The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate's education, training, and/or relevant experience.
