Overview

Principal Technology Product Manager – Data Foundation. Location: U.S. Remote. Remote-friendly role with a preference for working hours aligned with U.S. Eastern Time. This role leads the Data Foundation program as a senior expert and individual contributor, driving vision and execution for a critical platform modernization initiative. The ideal candidate blends strong technical acumen in data platforms and cloud architecture with top-tier product management skills, with a focus on innovation in the software development lifecycle and AI-enabled enhancements. Compensation information is found in the job post: base pay range $155,000.00/yr - $195,000.00/yr. Responsibilities

Strategic Vision & Roadmaps:

Develop and own the product strategy and multi-year roadmap for the Data Foundation program, ensuring alignment with platform modernization goals. Define phased milestones and communicate the vision to stakeholders and team members. Data Platform Leadership:

Modernize PVS data architecture and infrastructure. Drive a unified, cloud-based data platform, replace legacy systems, establish single sources of truth for key data domains, and provide scalable, real-time data access via APIs. Embed data governance, privacy, and quality standards from the outset. Cross-Functional Leadership:

Lead cross-functional teams (engineering, architecture, data science, UX/UI, business stakeholders) by influence, without direct managerial authority, to drive decisions and align on objectives and timelines. Product Development Lifecycle Innovation:

Introduce generative AI and agent-driven tools to improve requirements gathering, coding, testing, and analytics. Explore AI-powered insights or personalization within the platform to enhance user experience. Execution & Delivery:

Oversee end-to-end execution from concept to launch and iteration. Write PRDs, define user stories and acceptance criteria with Agile teams, and maintain a groomed backlog. Prioritize features by impact, value, and effort; ensure on-time delivery of milestones. Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate with internal stakeholders and executives. Communicate progress, challenges, and next steps; advocate for the customer and business needs to drive improvements in user experience, operations, and platform capabilities. Technical Depth & Decision-Making:

Use your technical background to inform product decisions. Understand cloud data pipelines, databases, and modern data architectures; evaluate AWS services and data models aligned with industry standards (e.g., Ed-Fi for education data). Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

Stay current with data platforms, analytics, and AI/ML trends. Pilot innovative approaches (e.g., event-driven architectures, AI agents) and scale successful experiments into features. Measurement & Accountability:

Define KPIs and success metrics (data availability, performance, API adoption). Use data to inform decisions and demonstrate program value. Mentoring and Leadership (Individual Contributor):

Mentor junior product managers and product owners; share expertise across the product organization and foster best practices in technical product management and AI adoption. Required Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years in product management with substantial work in platform or technical product management; track record of end-to-end large-scale initiatives, ideally including data platform or infrastructure projects. Identity/access management experience is a plus. Domain Expertise: Strong knowledge of data architecture and management; familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing or lakehouse concepts, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data governance. Education data experience is a plus. Technical Acumen: Comfortable discussing complex designs with architects and engineers. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven systems). Understanding of AI/ML concepts and their application in products. Leadership & Collaboration: Excellent cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management. Ability to influence teams that do not report to you. Experience in Agile/Scrum, backlog prioritization, and sprint planning. Innovation Mindset: Demonstrated interest in cutting-edge technologies, especially generative AI and intelligent agents. Track record of driving innovation and continuous learning. Preferred Qualifications

EdTech and Data Standards: Experience in education technology or data-driven industries. Familiarity with education data standards (e.g., Ed-Fi, LTI) or student information systems is a strong plus. AI/ML Projects: Experience delivering AI-enabled product features or integrating AI into PM processes. Cloud & Security Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified) and data privacy/security knowledge are appreciated given sensitive student data. Leadership in Matrix Organizations: Experience influencing senior leadership across multiple teams in a large matrix organization. Advanced Education: MBA or related field; technical master’s degree is a plus. Work Environment
