Overview

Principal Data Product Manager – Data Foundation at Pearson. This remote-friendly role leads the Data Foundation program as a senior individual contributor, driving vision and execution of a platform modernization initiative. The ideal candidate blends technical depth in data platforms and cloud architecture with top-tier product management, and leverages generative AI and intelligent agents to enhance product development and user experiences. Location: U.S. Remote (preference for hours aligned with U.S. Eastern Time). Responsibilities

Strategic Vision & Roadmaps: Develop and own the product strategy and multi-year roadmap for the Data Foundation program; define phased milestones and clearly communicate vision to stakeholders and team members. Data Platform Leadership: Modernize Pearson Virtual Schools data architecture and infrastructure; implement a unified, cloud-based data platform (AWS or similar) with single sources of truth, scalable real-time data access via APIs, and built-in data governance, privacy, and quality standards. Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, architects, data scientists, UX/UI designers, and business stakeholders through influence and thought leadership, without direct managerial authority. Product Development Lifecycle Innovation: Champion the use of generative AI and agent-driven tools; explore AI-enabled requirements gathering, coding, testing, and analytics; investigate AI-driven insights or personalization within the PVS platform. Execution & Delivery: Oversee end-to-end delivery from concept to launch and iteration; write PRDs, define user stories and acceptance criteria, and maintain a groomed backlog for Data Foundation workstreams; prioritize features based on impact and effort; ensure on-time delivery. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with product leaders, program managers, and executives; report progress and challenges; act as voice of the customer to ensure capabilities improve user experience, operations, and platform capabilities. Technical Depth & Decision-Making: Use technical background to trade off architectures with architects and engineers; ensure scalability, resilience, and alignment with data models and standards (e.g., Ed-Fi). Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with data platforms, analytics, and AI/ML; pilot AI agents for monitoring data quality and scale successful experiments into features. Measurement & Accountability: Define KPIs and success metrics (data availability, performance, API adoption); track outcomes and inform product decisions. Mentoring and Leadership (Individual Contributor): Mentor junior PMs and POs; share expertise; foster best practices in technical product management and AI adoption within the SDLC. Qualifications

Required

— Experience: 10+ years in product management with significant platform/technical PM experience; end-to-end delivery of large-scale initiatives; data platform or infrastructure experience preferred. Identity/access management experience is a plus. Domain Knowledge

— Strong data architecture and management knowledge; relational/NoSQL, data warehousing/lakehouse concepts, ETL/ELT, data governance, and data privacy; education data experience is a plus. Technical Acumen

— Comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), modern architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven), and AI/ML concepts applicable to products. Leadership & Collaboration

— Exceptional cross-functional leadership; influence without direct authority; strong communication and stakeholder management; experience in Agile/Scrum environments. Innovation Mindset

— Background in cutting-edge tech, especially generative AI, automation, and intelligent agents; demonstrated innovation and continuous learning. Preferred Qualifications

EdTech and Data Standards: Experience in education technology; familiarity with Ed-Fi, LTI, or student information systems. AI/ML Projects: Experience delivering AI-enabled product features or using AI tools in product management. Cloud & Security Certifications: Certifications such as AWS or security/privacy credentials (CIPP, CISSP) are a plus. Leadership in Matrix Organizations: Experience guiding initiatives across multiple teams in a large organization. Advanced Education: MBA or technical master’s degree. Work Environment

Location: Remote-friendly; prefer alignment with U.S. Eastern Time. Occasional travel may be required. Compensation & Benefits: Compensation influenced by skills, experience, and location. Pay range for this role is $155,000 - $195,000.
