Summary of Job Duties The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for an outstanding candidate to fill a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of August 2026. The department seeks candidates with a strong background in robotics and control, including advanced robot design, AI and machine‑learning applied to robot perception, planning, control, and autonomous and uncertainty‑aware decision making. Candidates should have an interest in robotics research in one or more of the following areas: healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated scholarly activity and potential for collaboration with faculty members and groups within the department’s existing or emerging research areas. Successful candidates will teach core mechanical engineering courses for undergraduate and graduate programs and contribute to departmental service needs. Regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance is essential, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution, conferred by the start of employment
Research and/or experience in robotics and control
Demonstrated potential for high‑quality research and generating high‑quality journal publications
Technical expertise that aligns with existing research strengths within the department, college, and university
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in pursuit and receipt of competitive research funding
Demonstrated engagement in collaborative research
Experience in teaching and/or teaching support for undergraduate and graduate courses
Industry experience in robotics and control
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
