The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources has a wide variety of strengths in forestry and natural resources management, policy and economics, environmental science and technology, wildlife and conservation biology, tree improvement, silviculture, forest biotechnology, and international forestry. The Department has over 90 full time faculty and staff, and more than 750 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. Faculty, staff, and students work together with business, industry, government, community groups, and non-government organizations to address a wide range of challenges facing our state and the world. Partnerships include Camcore, the Forest Productivity Cooperative (FPC), the Southern Forest Resource Assessment Consortium (SOFAC), and the Tree Improvement Program (TIP). Position Overview The primary purpose of this position is to lead research in evaluating the comprehensive economic impacts of Hurricane Helene on the Southern Forest Sector.

Responsibilities

Identifying usage of salvage timber in forest products markets and perceived impacts from hurricanes.

Exploring available tools and innovations that assess hurricane damage.

Assessing potential economy-wide impacts of Hurricane Helene using a computable general equilibrium model.

Assist the PI in developing progress reports.

Analyze the data and prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Lead and assist PI in other grant proposals.

Work in results dissemination and outreach efforts as required and asked by PI.

Attend non-revenue generating sporting events for free.

Qualifications Ph.D. in forestry, social science, applied economics, or related fields. Strong research skills and track record of academic publications. Strong social survey experiences and statistical training; demonstrate evidence of qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills.

Work Schedule 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Recruitment Anticipated Hiring Range $58,656 – $60,000.
