Opportunity Description The City of Coppell Police Department is seeking to add Police Recruits and Police Officers to our team! We are seeking candidates with heart, soul, and a passion for public service.

Police Recruit

A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the following:

Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)

Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification

Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

Candidate Engagement Plan

November 3 – November 30: Accepting applications

During our recruiting period, we will conduct our Application Material Review weekly. Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a Physical Fitness Test and complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) to be brought with them to their test. Following testing, candidates will complete a Written Examination.

Candidates who pass their Physical Fitness Test and Written Examination will undergo an Internal Background Investigation.

December 15 – December 19: Candidates invited to move forward in the next step of our hiring process will be invited to complete a DISC Assessment and participate in an Oral Panel Interview.

December 29 – January 2: Oral Panel Interviews

January 5: Candidates are notified of their status in our hiring process.

January 5 – February 27: Candidates extended a contingent offer of employment will complete pre‑employment requirements.

March 2: First Day as a City of Coppell Employee.

March 23: First Day of Academy.

Police Recruit

(PD1, Step 1)

Starting Hourly Rate: $39.27

Police Officer

(PD2, Steps 1‑7)

Starting Hourly Rate Step 1: $40.85

The starting salary of certified officers is based on the previous experience level of the applicant as a full‑time police officer.

Eligibility and Requirements Candidates must meet the following to apply:

Candidates must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation, or older.

Valid State of Texas Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, with a good driving record.

Ability to satisfactorily complete our hiring process:

Complete the Preliminary Application.

Physical Fitness Test (Concept 2 Rower).

Written Examination.

Internal Background Investigation.

Online DISC Assessment.

Oral Panel Interview.

Ability to satisfactorily complete all pre‑employment requirements post contingent offer:

Credit, Education, and Employment Verification.

Polygraph, Psychological (L3), and Drug/Medical Evaluation (L2).

Chief’s Meeting.

Education

High School Diploma/GED.

Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0, or higher, overall grade point average (GPA).

Experience

Police Recruit

Ability to satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy).

Ability to satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification.

Ability to satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period.

Police Officer

T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification.

Lateral Transfer Candidates

Be in good standing with current/previous agency.

Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of experience in a progressive agency of comparable size to Coppell from any state.

Experience as a reserve officer, constable, military service, military police, and jailer is not accepted.

Other Desired Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skillsets

Prior patrol duty experience.

TCOLE Advanced Certification.

Fluency in a language other than English.

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field of study.

Help people by providing public safety to the City Of Coppell.

Promote police / community partnerships through Problem‑Oriented Policing and Community Policing.

Provide a wide variety of services to our community including Citizens Police Academy, Junior Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol, Women’s Self Defense, and more.

Enforce traffic and parking laws.

Participate in community events and provide public safety at City‑sponsored events, sporting events, and other large‑scale public events.
