CEIS | Governement is hiring Construction Engineers (Levels I–III) to support critical infrastructure and capital projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). These positions are embedded within LANL’s Construction Management Division, providing engineering oversight, field execution support, and technical coordination across various scopes of work.
Candidates will contribute to safe and compliant execution of construction projects within a high-security and high-performance environment. As experience increases through CE1 to CE3, responsibilities grow to include project leadership, engineering decision-making, and mentorship of junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
Support construction projects by performing engineering analyses, technical reviews, and field coordination. Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures to solve site-specific construction problems. Participate in inspections, data collection, and issue resolution during active construction phases. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including design engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and QA/QC personnel. Assist in developing or reviewing drawings, specifications, test plans, and work packages. Ensure construction is executed in accordance with project requirements, codes, safety standards, and LANL procedures. Maintain engineering records, perform data analysis, and contribute to reporting and risk assessments. At higher levels (CE3), lead segments of projects or specialty scopes, and serve as a mentor to less experienced engineers. Required Qualifications by Level
Experience:
1–2 years of related experience. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience. Works under direct supervision on assigned portions of broader tasks. Applies prescribed engineering methods and standard practices in specific situations. Experience:
3–5 years of construction or engineering experience. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical training and experience. Supports experienced construction engineers by performing scoped assignments with moderate technical complexity. Applies construction engineering principles to routine field tasks and participates in progress reviews and problem-solving. Experience:
6–8+ years of progressively responsible engineering or construction experience. Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience. Performs engineering tasks with minimal supervision; may lead specific field segments or oversee portions of construction scope. Exercises professional judgment in applying codes, standards, and field-engineering solutions. Mentors junior staff and contributes to continuous improvement of field engineering processes. Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting construction in federal, DOE, or high-security environments. Familiarity with LANL construction and engineering procedures. Experience with field engineering, startup/commissioning, or industrial construction projects. Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills.
