Posting Summary

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for the design, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of experiments regarding the study of molecular mechanisms of the regulation of synaptic transmission in mammalian brain and human neurons derived from human tissue. In addition, the postdoc will perform molecular, cellular and/or electro-physiological experiments. The Postdoc will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, and presentations at conferences. The Postdoctoral Associate will prepare manuscripts based on their research, aid in developing the PI’s grant applications, and will apply for personal grant funding. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, will perform whole-cell patch clamp electrophysiology in brain slices and cell cultures.

Performs behavioral tests in mice.

Performs in vivo 2p imaging in head-fixed mice.

Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations in support of further CHI research.

Communicates with the PI and present the data in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience PhD or MD degree in Neuroscience or relevant biological sciences required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to work with rodent animals and human embryonic cells. Must have at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Applicant should be highly motivated, independent, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI. Must have a high level of research competency, knowledge, and skills to perform duties assigned by the PI. Must be able to assist in daily lab management, including training and direct oversight of personnel and students. Must have at least one first-author publication in peer-reviewed journals in biology-relevant fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with brain slice patch-clamp recordings and optical imaging. Excellent writing skills with experience in writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts, or scientific reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to work in a laboratory environment. Must be able to perform laboratory research. Some lifting may be required: such as office supplies, files, or light boxes up to 25 pounds. Walking, standing, sitting is required. Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required safety training. Must follow all safety precautions in laboratory, as required.

Salary details: min base salary: $63,968; salary based on experience; ranges provided as posted. Salary details: 20,000; 90,000; 200,000 (values reflect posting data).
