RBHS includes Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and seven other schools, a behavioral health network, and centers and institutes focused on cancer, neuroscience, biotechnology, environmental and occupational health, and health care policy and aging research. Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery to clinically perform neurosurgery for pediatric and adult patients while administratively providing leadership, strategy, and oversight for the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Responsibilities

Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery: Assist the Department Chair in relevant strategic planning for the delivery of pediatric neurosurgical services. Provide oversight for operational and programmatic aspects for Pediatric Neurosurgery with a focus on quality of surgical care and expansion of the pediatric service line. Direct professional activities and projects to ensure excellence within the area of pediatric neurosurgery. Oversee clinical and research resources of the Division to ensure optimal use and best practices. Collaborate with RWJBH Neuroscience service line leadership for innovation and integration of neurosurgical services throughout the health system. Mentor and develop junior faculty in accordance with the RBHS Appointments and Promotions Guidelines. Support the clinical and educational activities of the Department of Neurosurgery. Neurosurgeon Responsibilities

Demonstrates clinical competence and surgical excellence in neurosurgery. Demonstrates factual knowledge and technical skills in preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative care of patients, including critical care, with pathologic conditions pertaining to neurosurgical care. Demonstrates familiarity with diagnostic procedures appropriate to neurological diseases. Demonstrates knowledge and surgical experience in evolving techniques, such as endovascular procedures. Maintains compliance with applicable State, Federal, UNOS, CMS, and Joint Commission laws, rules, regulations and requirements and creates policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Surgically evaluates and treats patients who are determined to require services. Actively participates in the Department’s physician on-call schedule. R rounds daily on patients in accordance with best practices. Attends departmental and interdepartmental physician meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, quality improvement processes, and other appropriate meetings. Completes required medical documentation for patients’ charts in a timely manner. Completes and signs operative reports within 24 hours of surgery. Provides accurate and detailed reports to referring physicians in a timely manner. Provides accurate and complete information required for billing and coding. Provides clear instructions and explanations regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications and follow-up to patients and their families. Lectures the medical community, patients and general public on cardiac surgery, transcatheter valve procedures, transplant and mechanical surgical device services. Develops and participates in clinical trials. Collaborates with surgeons, nurses, nurse practitioners, ancillary staff and other physicians to promote a cohesive team environment. Maintains effective working relationships with attending physicians outside of the department and hospital administration. Maintains a team player attitude; creates a positive work environment. Respects others’ time, including punctual arrival to meetings and concluding meetings as scheduled. Safeguards patient confidentiality at all times. Participates in on-call schedule as assigned by Department Chair. Demonstrates thorough knowledge and adherence to Hospital policies and procedures. Position Details
