About the Company Our client is a well-established leader in the food and beverage industry, known for producing high-quality consumer products through innovative technology and a commitment to excellence. The Boston facility plays a key role in the company’s North American operations, supporting both production and packaging for a variety of household brands.

Position Overview The Controls Engineer will serve as the technical expert for automation and control systems across the facility. This role is responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC and HMI systems to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable plant operations. The ideal candidate brings a mix of hands‑on technical expertise, process optimization mindset, and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast‑paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement control system solutions for production and packaging lines, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.

Program, configure, and troubleshoot automation hardware and software (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, etc.).

Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to improve system performance, reliability, and safety.

Support new equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning projects.

Develop and maintain documentation for electrical and control systems, including schematics, network layouts, and logic diagrams.

Analyze process data to identify opportunities for energy reduction, efficiency gains, and waste minimization.

Provide technical training and support to maintenance and production teams.

Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory and safety standards.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience).

3+ years of experience in controls or automation engineering within food, beverage, or other process manufacturing environments.

Strong proficiency with Rockwell Automation (Allen‑Bradley) PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking.

Familiarity with instrumentation, motion control, and VFDs.

Experience integrating control systems with MES, ERP, or data collection systems is a plus.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems.

Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
