We’re partnered with a rapidly growing manufacturer in the Greater Cincinnati area that’s expanding its automation capabilities across multiple facilities. They’re looking for a Senior Automation Controls Engineer to take technical ownership of PLC/HMI systems, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and play a key role in upgrading and standardizing automation processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys a mix of hands‑on programming and project leadership - ideal for someone who wants to make an impact in a fast‑paced, innovation‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems (Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View).
Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring seamless system integration and reliability.
Develop control system documentation, including I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and network layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to improve system performance and uptime.
Provide on‑site startup support and field assistance as needed (local/regional travel only, typically 10–15%).
Mentor junior engineers or technicians on programming and system best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience designing and programming industrial automation systems.
Proficiency with Allen‑Bradley PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and control networks.
Strong understanding of electrical schematics, machine safety, and industrial standards (NFPA 70E, ISO, OSHA).
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience
Robotics integration (Fanuc, ABB, or Yaskawa).
Experience with SCADA, MES connectivity, or motion control applications.
Familiarity with EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
Previous leadership or project ownership experience in an automation or manufacturing environment.
