Office Assistant 2 – Spring Creek Correctional Complex
The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting an Office Assistant 2 for the Spring Creek Correctional Complex (SCCC), located in Seward, Alaska.
What you will be doing
Process all mail for Spring Creek Correctional Complex.
Perform services that require determining administrative, security, and/or programmatic tasks to be completed, prioritizing work, and deciding the appropriate action to be taken based on interpretation of the organization’s programs, policies and regulations.
Assist with recruitment and perform duties in multiple administrative functional areas that require adapting internal processes to meet the needs of the organization.
Assume post 12 duties of answering phones and checking in visitors.
Fluid daily tasks to include backups for all positions within the Administration area.

The working environment you can expect Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum‑security state operated adult correctional institution. The institution has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff. While much of Spring Creek's inmate population serve long term sentences, we also house prisoners serving shorter sentences.

Attention to detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Clerical: Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
Computer skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Customer service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Minimum qualifications High school diploma or the equivalent.
Substitution Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
