Position Overview
Math Faculty
– Virginia's Community College System, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Richmond (City) – 760. This full‑time instructor will teach developmental and introductory mathematics, including MDE and gateway courses. The position emphasizes inclusive, data‑informed teaching to advance equitable student outcomes.
Core Responsibilities
Teach a range of developmental and introductory‑level math courses, including MDE and co‑requisite models.
Design and deliver engaging, student‑centered instruction using active learning strategies and evidence‑based practices.
Maintain current and aligned course materials consistent with VCCS and Reynolds curricular outcomes.
Use Canvas and other instructional technologies to support learning and maintain regular and substantive interaction with students.
Provide timely, constructive feedback and proactive support to help students persist and succeed.
Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement of mathematics pathways.
Engage in professional development related to developmental mathematics, pedagogy, and equity‑minded teaching.
Contribute to departmental and college initiatives, including committee work, student‑success programs, and faculty collaboration.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
Knowledge of current best practices in math instruction, particularly developmental and co‑requisite models.
Demonstrated ability to teach diverse learners using inclusive, engaging, and accessible instructional methods.
Ability to use data‑driven approaches to inform teaching and improve student learning outcomes.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems such as Canvas.
Commitment to student success, equity, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.
Demonstrated ability to teach developmental and introductory college‑level mathematics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching MDE or co‑requisite mathematics in a community college setting.
Knowledge of current acceleration models and active learning strategies in developmental math.
Experience using data to assess and improve student outcomes.
Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations, including adult learners and first‑generation college students.
Experience integrating tutoring, supplemental instruction, or math support programs to enhance learning.
Proficiency with instructional technology, including Canvas and digital learning tools.
Commitment to student success, equity, and inclusive teaching practices.
Additional Considerations
Operation of a state vehicle – requires a valid driver’s license.
May supervise employees.
Required travel between campuses as needed.
