Position Summary The Sales Manager will assist in executing the Terre Haute Convention Center’s sales initiatives for the local Terre Haute market, regional Indiana and Midwestern, and national markets, including corporate meetings, conventions, conferences, weddings, and special events. The role requires active prospecting, direct client engagement on rates and contract terms, and cross‑departmental coordination. Strong verbal and written communication, self‑motivation, and a basic understanding of event sales, public relations, marketing, and event planning are essential. The Sales Manager must be an active community member and participate in community events.

About the Venue The Terre Haute Convention Center opened in spring 2022 and offers more than 12,000 sq. ft. of flexible ballroom space capable of seating up to 1,000 attendees for a general session or 700 for a formal dinner. The center supports full conferences with catering, audiovisual services, professional event staff, and planning. It is highly accessible with connected hotels and parking garages.

Responsibilities

Perform related work as assigned by Director of Sales and General Manager.

Promote the convention center to potential clients, conduct venue tours, provide information, and assist clients in finalizing bookings.

Serve as the primary sales contact for all groups within the assigned market(s).

Use yield management techniques to determine pricing for events.

Set appointments and make outside calls to potential clients.

Conduct solicitation calls, promotions, and direct mail activities.

Research, identify, and assess suitable groups for the venue.

Attend industry events and trade shows; overnight travel may be required.

Prepare written proposals, event contracts, sales folders, sales kits, event diagrams, and client correspondence.

Maintain accurate data in INFOR, facility booking CRM.

Contribute to the development of newsletters and other marketing materials.

Prepare reports, memoranda, and agreements and forecast projections.

Provide assistance and support to the Director of Sales.

Act as a liaison with industry representatives, the public, and other convention center departments.

Deliver verbal presentations to groups of various sizes.

Work as Manager on Duty (MOD) during events as required.

Develop and promote self‑initiated events.

Analyze competitors and target markets.

Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.

Participate actively on internal committees.

Collaborate with hotel partners and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Travel regionally to pursue new business opportunities.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3–5 years of increasingly responsible sales experience at an arena, convention center, sports franchise, hotel, or similar hospitality facility, including supervisory responsibility.

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with coursework in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.

High school diploma or GED required.

Availability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Strong track record of building relationships and generating new business.

Excellent organizational, leadership, and customer service skills.

Positive, enthusiastic attitude.

Experience with event scheduling and booking procedures is a plus.

Accurate financial reporting ability.

Strong management, sales, motivational, and organizational skills.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and database management software.

This role pays an annual salary of $43,888–$45,000.

This position will remain open until December 31, 2025.
