Your Mission in Action The Lead Medical Coordinator oversees the medical services for unaccompanied children. The role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to children with various health concerns, collaborating with program departments and regulatory standards to ensure the best outcomes for children under the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). They are responsible for overseeing health services, coordinating the provision of timely, appropriate health services, supervising other Medical Coordinators and providing staff training on medical, dental, and public health topics relevant to pediatric, adolescent, and migrant health. They also develop and maintain policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage, emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post‑release health care planning.

Responsibilities

Serve as the point of contact with the Division of Health for Unaccompanied Children (DHUC) Medical Team.

Provide nursing care to children, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and educating on various health concerns.

Assess, document, and manage pediatric patients’ health conditions and treatment plans, maintaining accurate and detailed children’s records in compliance with regulatory standards.

Support and enforce infection‑control policies, develop care plans for the medical isolation population following regulatory standards.

Coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed.

Coordinate and oversee the prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for unaccompanied children as prescribed.

Track all UC Portal medical data and UC medical files, ensuring proper immunization schedules are used in accordance with ORR, DHHS, and TVFC policies and procedures, and ensuring timely reporting of medical incidents (e.g., SIRs, HHSC SIR reports).

Track and ensure specialized services such as dental treatment, psychological, psychiatric, family planning, and emergency care are provided to unaccompanied children and identify other specialized health services as needed.

Serve as the liaison with medical service providers in the community.

Coach and support staff to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to optimize performance, ensure established program goals, and achieve operational excellence.

Communicate with direct program administration to report medical incidents.

Organize and deliver regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate current, ongoing, and future updates of pertinent information, projects, and initiatives.

Work in collaboration with leadership and the People and Culture Team to arrange training; when needed, coordinate and/or provide in‑service training for staff, contribute to hiring and onboarding new employees who are strong cultural fits for Upbring.

Review employee performance, including goals and progress, to provide developmental feedback; facilitate growth and development, draft and issue 90‑day and annual evaluations, and collaborate with staff to set goals during evaluation periods.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor’s degree; or higher health‑related qualification (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner).

One year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.

Previous supervisory experience.

Bilingual in English and Spanish (speak, read, and write).

Valid Texas driver’s license with auto insurance.

Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements.

Ability to build rapport with children and maintain professionalism.

Strong documentation, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and UC information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of nursing experience.
