Overview

The HR Client Partner provides comprehensive HR transactional support for faculty and staff across assigned departmental units. Responsibilities span both new hire/onboarding processes and employee lifecycle transactions, including job and pay changes, compliance requirements, and separations. The role ensures timely and accurate data entry in Banner HR, Cardinal HCM (where applicable), BDM, and related HRIS systems; maintains compliance with state, federal, and university policies; and partners with internal HR colleagues to deliver consistent service. Each HR Client Partner manages transactions for designated units to ensure accountability and continuity while cross-training with peers for backup coverage. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of HR transactional processes across onboarding and the employee lifecycle. Familiarity with I-9, E-Verify, background screening, and fingerprinting requirements. Ability to key HR actions accurately with appropriate documentation across Banner HR and Cardinal HCM. Exceptionally organized with meticulous attention to detail and strong follow-through. High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters. Effective written and verbal communication; strong internal customer service orientation. Ability to document and share best practices and clear process steps, escalating observed themes or issues to the reporting manager for dissemination to HR Business Partners and/or Talent Acquisition Partners for communication to assigned areas and to support process streamlining. Ability to develop and maintain SOPs that support continuity in HR processing. Minimum Qualifications

Prior HR operations, onboarding, or transactional HR experience. Experience with HRIS and document management systems, including Banner HR and BDM. Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel and reporting tools. Additional Considerations

Knowledge in HR, Business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with Cardinal HCM, Banner HR action and reason codes, BDM, and PeopleAdmin. Prior experience working in higher education or a similarly complex, decentralized environment. Familiarity with Commonwealth of Virginia HR policies. Experience with background check platforms (First Advantage, Fieldprint). Professional certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP. Conditions of Employment

Work hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, and work location is on the ODU main campus in Norfolk, VA. Salary
