A great highlight in December is that Marshall University employees receive almost two weeks off for Winter Break.

Annual and Sick Leave – Classified Staff, Non-Classified Staff and 12-month Faculty earn up to 24 days of annual leave per year (max 360 hours) and up to 18 days of sick leave per year.

Health Insurance – Marshall University offers health insurance through West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA). There are seven (7) health benefit plans.

Educational/Tuition Benefits – Marshall University provides tuition benefits to regular employees (after probationary period) and their dependent children.

Retirement Plans – Marshall University offers retirement through Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA). Full‑time benefits eligible employees must participate in the mandated retirement plan (401(a)).

Position Title: Assistant Professor (Counseling)

Classification Title: Assistant Professor

Department: Counseling – MU600C

Job Description: Probationary, tenure‑track 12‑month Assistant Professor appointment, starting Fall 2026. Teaching an assigned load of synchronous and asynchronous graduate level courses using Blackboard Ultra LMS, Microsoft Teams, and other relevant instructional technologies.

Providing engaged advising to a group of students commensurate with other duties.

Maintaining consistent accessibility for advisees, students, faculty, and colleagues.

Participating in department, college, university, professional, and community service.

Maintaining an active research agenda that includes the pursuit of external funding.

Providing leadership of a designated course(s) and supervision of a teaching team of instructors.

Supporting ongoing accreditation and continuous improvement of the Counseling Department.

Ensuring administrative and communication processes of the Department, College, and University are implemented quickly and efficiently.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Qualifications Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.

Required Qualifications

Education: Earned doctoral degree in counseling or a related field from a CACREP‑accredited or CACREP‑recognized program, or a related doctoral degree with full‑time employment as a faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.

Experience: Sustained licensure (or licensure eligibility) and experience as a professional counselor (e.g., LPC, LMHC, etc.). A record of teaching and supervision excellence in an online educational model that includes both synchronous (e.g., live sessions using Microsoft Teams or Zoom) and asynchronous instructional methods. Strong professional counselor and/or school counselor identity as evidenced by sustained professional renewal activities, advanced training and certification, membership in professional associations, service to the profession, direct service, and professional and community advocacy.
