Job Title -
Bus Driver
Reports to:
Director of Transportation
Job Purpose:
Provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.
Qualifications - Required High School Diploma Valid NJ driver's license Valid Driver's License for at least three (3) years Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to follow directions and adhere to rules and regulations Ability to relate to school age children from PreK-12 Ability to learn bus routes and be on time Ability to successful acquire a CDL license (District will train applicants to become bus drivers) Ability to control a school bus in emergency situations Ability to work a flexible work day in morning and afternoon Ability to pass the requirement physical examination to obtain CDL license Ability to pass the required Criminal History Review Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure Other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation
Qualifications - Desired Current CDL license 2-3 years driving a school bus
Duties/Responsibilities Obeys all traffic laws Observes mandatory safety regulations for school buses Maintains discipline when students are on the bus Reports unruly students to the proper authority Keeps assigned bus clean Keeps to assigned schedule Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects Checks bus after each run to ensure all students are off the bus Notifies proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness Discharges students only at authorized stops Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips Transports only authorized students and authorized school personnel Reports all accidents and completes the required reports Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus Ensures all students are in their seats
Working Conditions Transportation Department School bus Available for morning, afternoon, evening runs Available for 5-Hour or 6-Hour day Willing to train individuals wanting to be a bus driver Health, Dental, and Retirement (PERS) Benefits (contracted drivers) Starting rate of $23,790 (5-hour) - $28,548 (6-hour)
Physical Requirements Able to climb steps to enter the bus Able to drive a 54 passenger bus Able to raise arms and use hands to steer a school bus Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Able to tilt head to look into rearview mirror to monitor students Able to sit and drive a school bus for long periods of time Able to walk through and clean out a school bus.
