Job Description: Pay Range: $20.41hr - $21.70hr

• The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws, collecting and labeling specimens, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.
• The role requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package and store specimens according to temperature and protocol requirements to maintain integrity during transport.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend required annual departmental training.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
