Job Description:
Pay Range: $20.41hr - $21.70hr
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws, collecting and labeling specimens, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.
The role requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand and follow all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
Package and store specimens according to temperature and protocol requirements to maintain integrity during transport.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend required annual departmental training.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
0–2 years of relevant experience.
