What You Will Be Doing

Our Administrative Assistants are the backbone of the Ferry System, ensuring passengers are taken care of and excited for a trip on the ferry. We handle AMHS reservations for the public, using independent judgment. The role requires excellent customer service skills, teamwork vision, and superb judgment. Become an integral part of the local community and work with DOT&PF and AMHS Central Office to facilitate travel and provide a cohesive Marine Transportation system for Alaskans and frequent visitors. Six months of advanced clerical experience (e.g., Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk) or the equivalent with another employer. OR Six months of any combination of post‑secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced‑level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post‑secondary education equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience). Special Note

Examples of advanced clerical experience include: reviewing complex applications/docs, searching files and regulations, applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; completing necessary administrative paperwork. Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines.
