Senior Accountant
Full-Time, Exempt – Nonprofit organization.
Base Pay Range $85,000.00/yr - $105,000.00/yr
Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Senior Accountant to join our nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for supporting community impact through sound financial stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee general ledger maintenance and ensure accurate journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow).
Reconcile bank, credit card, and investment accounts.
Monitor cash flow and manage forecasting processes.
Maintain and improve the chart of accounts and financial systems.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, and IRS nonprofit regulations (501(c)(3), 501(c)(4)).
Coordinate and support annual audits and tax filings (including Form 990).
Implement and monitor internal controls and financial policies.
Manage grant accounting and reporting, ensuring alignment with funding requirements.
Assist in developing and monitoring organizational and departmental budgets.
Provide financial analysis and insights to leadership and program teams.
Support strategic planning and decision‑making with accurate financial data.
Serve as a key point of contact for finance‑related inquiries across departments.
Train and support staff on financial procedures and systems.
Present financial reports to leadership, board members, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and Excel.
Experience with grant management and audit coordination.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
