Summary This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2026. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date.
Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements listed below. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current – full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States – or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.
PRPs are to have a “scope of practice” that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Preferred Experience: Completion of family medicine or internal medicine residency; outpatient primary care experience.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity; periods of walking, standing, sitting, etc.; possible exposure to patients at risk of infection; ability to work under stress.
Duties
Comprehensive primary care will be provided to male and female Veterans, including prevention, patient self‑management, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, health promotion, and health maintenance.
Perform comprehensive physical examinations to formulate evidence‑based treatment plans and engage in shared medical decision‑making.
Maintain clinical knowledge and skills to provide services in face‑to‑face, virtual (telephonic, video, secured messaging), and other modalities.
Collaborate with other health care resources to ensure continuity of care.
Promote, evaluate, and be responsible for referrals of clinical concerns identified during evaluations.
Serve as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team, collaborating with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care for Veterans.
Participate in continuous medical education, including opioid prescribing and women’s health primary care provider training.
Provide coverage for other providers in clinic if needed or assigned.
Exemplify ICARE core values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence.
Assist with arranging continuity of care across the VHA system as needed.
Provide leadership to ensure care is completed in required timeframes.
Participate in quality improvement activities and medical center committees as assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff.
