Job Description We’re searching for a Senior Systems Administrator, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will maintain and administer software and hardware on major hospital systems. Consult and assist with new and existing applications, hardware architecture, operating system and layered products installation and upgrades, capacity planning, systems administration, systems programming, performance monitoring, file systems management; research, test, and participate in standards development; and resolve problems in a technologically advanced cluster of platforms.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain operating system administration software, install, administer, and optimize servers and virtual machines, implement infrastructure and application enhancements, improve reliability and performance.

All system administration functions: security & patch management, preventative maintenance, monitoring system performance, tuning, troubleshooting, optimization, and resource utilization.

Plan and coordinate system utilization, perform growth analysis and capacity planning.

Monitor and maintain system performance of Enterprise Servers.

Research and onboard technologies for the IS department, identify and recommend tools and technologies using best practices/industry standards to support strategic direction and business initiatives.

Provide technical assistance and training in operating systems, hardware platforms, network protocols and vendor or third‑party utilities to Information Services staff.

Lead development and maintenance programming activities, participate in meetings concerning user consulting, systems analysis, system design and vendor contracts.

Plan, install and test application software in production and test environments; identify need for new hardware or software, research alternatives, develop hardware configuration requirements, coordinate activities of staff and vendors, determine restrictions and conflicts, plan and execute changes, test changes.

Provide end‑user support: receive calls forwarded from Help Desk, communicate with users to determine problems, identify scope, analyze, research solutions, determine appropriate solutions, make changes, escalation when necessary, test changes.

Contribute to design and execution of disaster recovery plan: participate in meetings and planning sessions, prepare documents, evaluate alternative methods of providing disaster‑tolerant systems while maintaining preparedness.

Skills & Requirements

High school diploma or GED; preferred bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Bachelor’s degree will substitute for 4 years of experience.

Required 7 years’ experience in administration of enterprise‑level systems.
