Position Overview:
The General Manager of Product Testing provides strategic and operational leadership for all testing services within the organization. This role oversees laboratory operations, quality assurance, technical excellence, client satisfaction, and financial performance. The General Manager ensures that testing programs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement and business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement the strategic plan for the product testing division, aligning with corporate goals.
Identify market opportunities and lead business development initiatives to expand testing capabilities and customer base.
Drive innovation in testing methods, equipment, and technology adoption.
Operational Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of multiple testing laboratories or facilities.
Ensure efficient scheduling, workflow management, and resource utilization across departments.
Establish and monitor performance metrics (throughput, turnaround time, capacity, productivity, etc.).
Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, NADCAP, or other applicable industry standards.
Technical Oversight
Provide direction for development and validation of new testing methods.
Ensure all testing activities adhere to industry specifications, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to support product qualification and failure analysis programs.
Quality & Compliance
Maintain a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Ensure testing accuracy and data integrity through robust quality management systems.
Lead audits and customer assessments to ensure accreditation and client satisfaction.
Develop annual budgets and manage P&L for the product testing division.
Monitor revenue, expenses, and profitability; implement corrective actions where needed.
Support capital investment planning for new equipment and facility upgrades.
Lead and develop a high-performing team of technical and operational managers.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and safety-driven work culture.
Support workforce planning, training, and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of progressive experience in product testing, laboratory management, or quality assurance.
Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a regulated technical environment.
Strong understanding of testing standards (ASTM, ISO, MIL, SAE, etc.) and accreditation requirements.
Demonstrated P&L management and strategic business development skills.
Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills.
Preferred Experience (Depending on Industry):
Aerospace, automotive, defense, or materials testing background.
Experience with environmental, mechanical, or performance testing.
Familiarity with lean principles and laboratory automation technologies.
