Position within the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. This role is within the HAARC Center and involves clinical research focused on communication intervention for people with PPA.
Job Summary The Communication Bridge Research Program at the Healthy Aging and Alzheimer's Research Care (HAARC) Center seeks a dedicated Speech‑Language Pathologist to screen, deliver the core speech‑language therapy (SLT) component of the Communication Bridge intervention, or assess outcomes for the new randomized controlled trial (RCT) launching in 2024. The role involves regulatory compliance with study protocols, supporting community outreach and education, data organization and analysis, mentoring, and collaboration with extramural partners. Flexible scheduling may be required to meet intervention session needs.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive speech‑language evaluations for participants with PPA.
Implement the assigned intervention protocol, control or experimental arm, with fidelity, utilizing evidence‑based SLP approaches within a dyadic framework.
Facilitate individual and dyadic intervention sessions via HIPAA‑compliant videoconferencing.
Act as a resource on clinical research basics for colleagues, preparing and evaluating protocols, IRB submissions, grant applications, manuscripts, reports, and dissemination tools.
Coordinate collection of analyzable clinical research data and samples with independence.
Perform daily clinical study activities including data retrieval, documentation, and audits.
Perform other related work as needed.
Education
Clinical master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders (SLP).
Experience
Familiarity with telehealth service delivery and technology, including video‑chat, iPad setup and accessibility settings, and communication support web and smart device applications.
Familiarity with Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) and background delivering services in an LPAA model of care.
Clinical experience working with adults who have aphasia and their families.
Background working with AAC in adults.
Prior experience providing care for individuals with PPA or a related dementia syndrome.
Certifications
ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
Technical Skills or Knowledge
Research methods (study design, research ethics, data analysis).
Database management experience, including data entry into REDCap or other database systems.
Preferred Competencies
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
Lab environment.
Compensation and Benefits Pay Range: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year.
Schedule: 40 hours per week, full‑time, at‑will position.
FLSA Status: Exempt.
Employment contingent upon continued receipt of grant funds and satisfactory performance.
