Position Summary The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama invite applications for a tenure-track associate professor position. Candidates with a strong research emphasis in solidification science and metal casting are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will develop a highly productive research group, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and contribute to departmental and university service.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated record of research work and a record of impactful scholarly publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and similarly impactful venues.

Demonstrated record in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, and/or materials science education and professional service in area(s) of specialization.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated the ability to construct and sustain a quality research program.

Exhibit excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated a record of high-quality research and scholarly publications that is recognized nationally and/or internationally, particularly in the areas of metal casting and solidification science.

Significant record of scholarship in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or a closely related department with both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
