Overview
The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Tennessee Knoxville invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Counseling Psychology, one at the rank of Assistant Professor and the second at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. One position will be filled by someone who can successfully teach a graduate course in Applied Psychometrics and supervise clinical assessments.
The Counseling Psychology Program is the first APA‑accredited Scientist‑Practitioner‑Advocate training program and was reaccredited under this training model in 2016. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to our programs emphasis on social justice advocacy and multicultural psychology. These positions will begin August 1, 2026.
The UTK Department of Psychology and Neuroscience has five Ph.D.‑granting research areas and includes 39 tenure‑line faculty, 7 full‑time lecturers, and 3 full‑time Clinical faculty. The Counseling Psychology program consists of five full‑time core faculty members and three affiliated faculty members.
Responsibilities Teach a graduate course in Applied Psychometrics and supervise clinical assessments.
Qualifications Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an APA‑accredited Counseling Psychology program or a closely related field by August 1, 2026 and be license‑eligible as a psychologist in the state of Tennessee.
Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor should have published research in peer‑reviewed journals and enthusiasm for teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels with potential for extramural research funding and national recognition.
Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must present a sustained and nationally recognized record of published research and excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and also demonstrate a history of institutional and professional service and in most cases have at least five years of experience at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Preference will be given to applicants whose area of research and teaching complement our program’s emphases on social justice advocacy, multicultural psychology, and/or clinical practice, expertise in assessment and psychometrics, and applicants interested in teaching Advanced Group Methods / Intergroup Dialogue.
