Summary
General Manager is responsible for the complete day‑to‑day operation of the store, maximizing sales and profitability, managing expenses, and ensuring optimal stocking and customer service. They inspire, influence, and motivate the management team and associates, focusing on growth and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Drive store sales by ensuring all customers are acknowledged, their needs are met, and concerns resolved quickly following the Ace Helpful 101 S.A.L.E.S. process. Foster Great Lakes Ace Hardware’s B2B strategy.
- Financial Management: Control operating costs, analyze trends, implement plans to maximize sales, review Sales Report and P&L, monitor payroll, enforce cash control measures.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all company policies and complete paperwork accurately and on time.
- Inventory Control: Maintain accurate inventory through daily receiving and on‑hand integrity.
- Loss Prevention: Create an environment that deters theft, raise associate awareness, and notify District Manager of discrepancies.
- Merchandising: Ensure appropriate stock levels and presentations per corporate guidelines.
- Associate Development: Hire, train, and develop retail staff, provide performance feedback, delegate responsibilities.
- Communication: Strong oral and written skills; conduct quarterly store meetings, daily huddles, and disseminate information professionally.
- Store Appearance: Maintain a clean, safe, presentable shopping experience; ensure break rooms, restrooms, and back room are organized.
- Attendance: Maintain regular prompt attendance, with ability to work rotating schedule including weekends.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise up to 20 associates, handle interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, discipline, and grievance resolution.
- Relationships: Maintain open lines of communication with all associates, supervisors, and support center personnel.
- Technology: Use computer keyboard, mouse, RF gun, Google Drive, Ace Net, Epicor, HCM software, and email.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Five to seven years related management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, regulations; write reports and correspondence; present information effectively.
- Mathematical Skills: Calculate discounts, percentages, and perform basic arithmetic.
- Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Physical Demands: Regular walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and other tasks as required by the store environment.
- Work Environment: Moderate noise level; occasional proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Compensation
$52,000-$70,000 annually
