Job Overview
As a Building Code Inspector, you’ll be the guardian of quality and compliance, ensuring all construction projects on airport property meet International Code Council (ICC) standards, Federal and State regulations, and DFW Design Criteria. Your work will directly impact the functionality, safety, and sustainability of our airport.
Responsibilities
Advise leadership on policies, codes, and inspection activities related to facility design and construction.
Review construction documents for compliance with ICC codes, design criteria, and regulations.
Assist in updating the DFW Design Criteria Manual and Standard Details.
Develop recommendations for design criteria aligned with ICC codes, standards, and regulations.
Collaborate with contractors and inspectors to ensure construction projects meet design standards.
Ensure compliance with FAA regulations and mandated design standards.
Perform field inspections in areas such as accessibility, building systems, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, public utilities, or structural systems.
Document inspection results, issue deficiency reports, and monitor remedial actions.
Provide technical assistance on code interpretation, constructability, and quality assurance from design to final inspection.
Address environmental aspects and impacts during inspections and communicate findings to Environmental Affairs.
Evaluate environmental performance and provide feedback on improvements or exemplary work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture.
3+ years in design, plan review, or field work in a relevant discipline (mechanical, building, structural, ADA, electrical, or plumbing).
Certification (within 12 months of hire, then maintain) one or more of the following (or already possess):
TDLR Registered/Certified A/C Technician License
ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector / Mechanical Plans Examiner
ICC Fuel Gas Inspector
ICC Commercial Energy Inspector / Plans Examiner
ICC Commercial Combination Inspector / Combination Plans Examiner
Valid Class C driver’s license.
Equivalent education/experience considered.
Key Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of local/state/national codes (ICC family) in one or more disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fuel gas, energy, accessibility, structural, or general building).
Proven ability to identify non‑compliance in documents and in‑progress/finished work, and to drive timely corrective action.
Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills with a customer‑service mindset.
Strong collaboration skills and ability to build harmonious relationships across internal and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Multi‑discipline experience or multiple ICC certifications (e.g., mechanical + electrical + energy).
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Teams/Outlook, and permitting systems (e.g., municipal/airport platforms).
Comfortable using Apple iPad in the field for mobile inspections and documentation.
Special Requirements
Obtain and maintain SIDA badge within 30 days per TSA/DFW requirements.
Safety Sensitive: Pre‑employment and random drug screening required per DFW policy.
