Sr. Combination Inspector City of Fort Worth – Department of Development Services Inspections Division.

Pay Range: $28.62 - $35.78/hr. ($59,534 - $74,418 annual). Sign‑On Incentive: $2,000 (50% after first pay period, 50% after 6 months).

Job Posting Closing: Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Workdays & Hours: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 AM‑4:30 PM (Full‑time, 40 hrs/week).

Job Overview The Sr. Combination Inspector performs complex inspections on industrial, commercial, and residential construction sites to ensure compliance with city codes, ICC codes, and zoning ordinances. Responsibilities include enforcing code, collaborating with architects and contractors, and conducting customer service interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

HS diploma/GED plus specialized training in building construction or a related field.

Three (3) years of experience in building inspection and/or construction field.

Valid driver’s license.

Within six months, obtain an ICC certification as an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) commercial or residential inspector.

Within one year, obtain a Texas plumbing inspector license.

Within two and a half years, obtain three additional ICC certifications and/or Texas licenses in three different trades.

Preferred Qualifications

Building construction inspection experience.

ICC certification as residential or commercial building inspector.

ICC certification as residential or commercial electrical inspector or Texas journeyman/master electrician license.

ICC certification as residential or commercial mechanical inspector or Texas air conditioning contractor license.

ICC certification as residential or commercial plumbing inspector or Texas journeyman/master plumbing license.

Job Responsibilities

Perform complex inspections on multiple permits at industrial, commercial and residential construction sites.

Enforce compliance with ICC building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, existing building, sign codes and city zoning codes.

Issue notices for non‑compliance, document actions and maintain files for potential legal actions.

Consult with architects, contractors, builders and the public; explain and interpret code requirements.

Assist Combination Inspectors with minor compliance issues and construction projects.

Enforce zoning regulations by inspecting existing buildings and premises for change of use or occupancy.

Inspect foundation, structural concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plumbing, mechanical and electrical installations.

Provide customer service via face‑to‑face interaction, telephone or email.

Perform other related duties as required.

Adhere to assigned work schedule and city attendance policies.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands Positions require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Light work: up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently.
