Hiring Range: $20.07 - $24.58 Per Hour

Bring your lived experience and passion for advocacy to Kitsap Mental Health Services as a Forensic Programs Peer Support Specialist. In this vital role, you’ll support individuals in the FPATH program, helping clients overcome barriers to housing, behavioral health services and community reintegration while promoting recovery and self‑determination.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide individualized peer support using lived experience.

Assist clients in securing housing, employment, and essential resources.

Facilitate individual and group sessions, guiding through recovery‑focused activities and the “Breaking Barriers” curriculum.

Support daily living skills such as personal hygiene, meal planning, and financial management.

Act as liaison between clients, team members and community resources.

Advocate for client rights and help resolve grievances or complaints.

Participate in community integration efforts, connecting clients to social, recreational, and self‑help opportunities.

Document client progress and maintain accurate, confidential records per agency policies.

Respond to increasing suicidality, substance abuse education, and readiness for employment.

Provide practical help to access health care, legal services, housing subsidies, and other services.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:

Entry level (no prior related work experience).

Driving:

Must provide personal vehicle, meet agency driving requirements, possess a valid Washington state driver’s license and reliable insured transportation.

Background:

Must pass annual background check and obtain jail access if required.

Licensure:

Agency‑Affiliated Counselor Registration; complete Washington State Mental Health Division’s Peer Counselor Training and certification within six months.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant experience with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Capacity to work well with children and families.

Performance Requirements Knowledge

Current trends in community mental health, health care reform, and job task automation.

Mental health rehabilitation standards.

Skills

Effective relationships with employees, clients, organizations and the public.

Clear and concise communication.

Proficiency with a personal computer, fax machine, printer and copier.

Abilities

Maintain professional boundaries while balancing peer and employee roles; seek clinical supervision as needed.

Meet or exceed productivity standards.

Provide oral and written feedback on consumer progress, including timely e‑clinical notes.

Work cooperatively as a team member.

Operate standard office equipment.

Work Environment Frequent mobility and/or extended periods of sitting.

Physical Requirements Walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk or listen; peripheral vision required.
