Controller – Confidential Law Firm Client
We are partnering with a
long-established mid-size law firm headquartered in Los Angeles
that’s undergoing a finance transformation to modernize systems and strengthen financial operations across seven offices nationwide. This is a hands‑on leadership role for an experienced
law‑firm Controller
who thrives in high‑volume billing environments and enjoys stabilizing and optimizing accounting infrastructure.
The Opportunity The Controller will partner closely with the CFO to restructure the finance function, build scalable processes, and strengthen reporting and controls. The firm operates on
Elite 3E , and this role will have direct oversight of accounting, billing, and financial reporting while managing a large, tenured team.
This is an ideal fit for someone who has led through transition — improving systems, driving process discipline, and partnering directly with firm leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting and billing operations across seven offices.
Manage month‑end close, cash flow, and financial reporting.
Supervise billing and collections teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and firm‑wide financial strategy.
Stabilize and optimize the Elite 3E system; implement process improvements.
Ensure compliance with trust accounting and professional service regulations.
Collaborate with practice leaders and executives on financial performance.
Ideal Background
10+ years of progressive accounting leadership in a
law firm or professional services
environment.
Experience managing large teams (20–30 staff) and billing operations.
Deep working knowledge of
Elite 3E
or similar accounting platforms.
Strong understanding of
GAAP, trust accounting, and partnership structures.
Hands‑on leader with a process‑driven approach and calm under pressure.
Nice to Have
CPA or equivalent credential.
Experience with system implementations or financial modernization initiatives.
Prior exposure to multi‑office structures and executive collaboration.
