Position Summary
The
Senior Accountant
is responsible for maintaining the books and records of the hospital and its related subsidiaries with limited supervision. This role prepares financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules and reports in accordance with
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) . The Senior Accountant ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in all financial activities, contributing directly to the organization’s fiscal integrity and operational success.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and analyze multiple monthly and annual financial statements and participate in month-end close and review meetings.
Maintain accurate general ledger records and balance sheet audit worksheets.
Record monthly journal entries—both recurring and non-routine—including accruals and prepaid analyses.
Perform financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders (IRS forms, surveys, pools, cash receipts assessments, etc.).
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and Indirect Cost Rate (ICR) reporting.
Compile supporting schedules for annual tax returns (Forms 990, 1120, CHAR500) and ensure timely compliance and filing.
Serve as liaison with outside auditors and provide required documentation for year-end, pension, A‑133 grant, and Worker’s Compensation audits.
Analyze monthly expense and FTE budget variances.
Monitor capital leases and all debt obligations, reconciling related liability accounts.
Prepare and maintain Property, Plant, and Equipment (PP&E) schedules and depreciation calculations.
Reconcile daily cash receipts and disbursements to the general ledger and bank statements.
Prepare weekly cash disbursement outflow reports.
Maintain data integrity within key financial systems and support related reporting templates and interfaces.
Collaborate effectively with hospital departments to resolve finance‑related issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience required.
Experience in a healthcare environment preferred, but not mandatory.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.), Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
Experience with Power BI required; Think‑Cell PowerPoint software experience preferred.
Familiarity with Veradigm (formerly Allscripts/McKesson) and Strata financial systems preferred.
Other Requirements:
Strong financial analysis and data interpretation skills.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management abilities.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision.
