About the Position The Department of Political Science at Stanford University seeks applications for an open rank, tenure line position in Comparative Politics. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to maintain a world-class research program and a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

Maintain a world‑class research program.

Teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Develop and deliver courses in Comparative Politics.

Engage in departmental service and contribute to the academic community.

Qualifications

Applicants for the rank of assistant professor must have a PhD or be enrolled in a PhD program, with expected completion by the date of appointment.

Evidence of a creative research trajectory and commitment to excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Applicants for associate or full professor must have a conferred PhD and substantial evidence of a creative research career with impact on the field.

Commitment to excellence in teaching and advising at both levels.

Provide cover letter, CV (including publication list), teaching and research statements (no more than three single‑spaced pages), teaching evaluations, transcripts (for PhD applicants), writing sample, and three professional letters of recommendation.

Application Process Submit applications through Stanford Faculty Positions. All candidates will be asked to provide the names of three references.

Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2025; later applications may be considered at the discretion of the search committee.

Salary Range (Academic Year 2025–26) Assistant Professor: $139,050 – $149,350

Associate Professor: $180,250 – $226,600

Professor: $257,500 – $360,500
