Job Summary:
This position reports to the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and is the primary liaison between the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and JMH Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinic Behavioral Health. The position includes opportunities for participation in research and other academic activities of a rapidly growing Department of Psychiatry with a national reputation for research, teaching and clinical service.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluation and treatment of child and adolescent patients at the University of Miami Clinics and hospitals
Teaching of medical students, supervision of psychiatry residents and child psychiatry fellows
Evaluation and treatment of patients as a part of the UMMG faculty practice
Actively work with departmental chiefs and key department representatives on important patient care issues, including meetings with other department directors/managers as needed
Coordinate and participate in staff and faculty meetings
Participate in clinical meetings with administration and Department of Psychiatry to address administrative/clinical issues
The Department's Chair or Vice Chair may assign additional duties.
Additional Role:
Training Director Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program
Training Director Job Duties include:
Develop, supervise, and monitor the quality of the training curriculum and the ethical and professional conduct of all child and adolescent psychiatry residents
Supervise and provide academic direction for the execution of all training activities in child and adolescent psychiatry
Organize seminars for the General Psychiatry Training Program to include ongoing didactic instruction in child psychopathology, growth and development, psychotherapy
Oversee and continued participation of program faculty based on resident evaluations
Monitor resident supervision
Ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures at JHS as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and Implemented by the sponsoring institution
Monitor the need for and ensure the provision of backup support systems when patient care responsibilities are unusually difficult or prolonged
Monitor resident stress, including physician and emotional conditions that inhibit performance or learning, as well as drug or alcohol issues
Actively participate in and help coordinate the resident selection process
Oversee the continued participation of program faculty based on resident evaluations; monitor resident supervision
Education:
This position requires an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., board eligibility in psychiatry and an unrestricted Florida medical license. The individual must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Mentor:
Dr. Barbara Coffey, Professor and Chair will mentor and support this position and help the incumbent adjust to the University and faculty status during their first year of employment.
