Tax Senior to Tax Manager – Indianapolis
There’s a certain type of person who thrives here. The one who actually likes being in the room, not behind the screen. Who gets energy from walking down the hall and solving a problem in real time.
At this small CPA firm, you’ll be surrounded by people who’ve already built that muscle, professionals from larger firms who know the pace, the expectations, and what good work looks like. The difference here is you’ll still get that quality of client work, without taking it home with you or working 80‑hour weeks. You'll be working 55‑65 total hours in busy season. You won't need to “switch off” because when they finish for the day, they’ve actually finished.
You’ll be working with established businesses mostly S‑Corps, plus a mix of partnerships and C‑Corps and individuals. Clients typically sit between $2M–$100M in revenue, many with multi‑state or international elements. It’s sophisticated.
The team is predominately in office because they enjoy it but they do offer home working too. Leadership are in most of the time too, it’s an “ask a question, get an answer” kind of culture. During busy season they provide catered lunches, and when you’re done for the day, you’re done.
They’re open to seniors through to senior managers due to growth. Growth from $1.1M to $4M since COVID. If you’ve come from a bigger firm, you’ll find the clients familiar. If you’re from a smaller firm but have experience with larger, more complex clients, you’ll be considered too.
What matters most is attitude, they hire people who want to make their career a priority and will invest heavily in your development through dedicated training, paid travel to conferences that interest you, and continuing education. Don’t mistake that with working to the ground, most of the partners have young families so during the work hours yes they are dedicated but when its time to clock off work doesn’t come with them.
Salary ranges from $85K to $200K depending on level. You’ll need your CPA if you’re looking at manager levels and above.
If you like working in the office, value doing things the right way, and want to build a long‑term career surrounded by people who care as much as you do, this is a great place to do it.
Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? No problem. You can still apply the old‑fashioned way, or just reach out to start a conversation with Imogen via LinkedIn or the Distinct Recruitment website or contact her cell at 312‑584‑9844. She’ll be happy to tell you more about the firm, the job and the prospects before you commit further.
Imogen Talbot‑Slack is a Recruiter with Distinct Recruitment. She’s been recruiting in finance for over 9 years, with a focus on public accounting firms across Illinois and Indiana. She’s not a career salesperson she’s built her reputation by actually listening to what candidates want, whether that’s better hours, a path to partner, or simply a firm where they’ll enjoy going to work.
Think you only have 87% of the required experience? Perfect – apply anyway. The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that’s where it gets rather exciting.
