Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Retention Specialist position is funded by a Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) grant that supports career pathways for early childhood educators pursuing certificates and degrees required for EEC credentialing and workforce advancement. The Retention Specialist will assist with student recruitment through outreach activities and help coordinate ECE student orientation to the college. This position supports students by providing, delivering, and tracking educational resources including the ECE Grant's loaner laptops and other relevant materials. The Retention Specialist ensures effective communication between students and essential college services such as Registration, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, IT Support, Moodle and Zoom Support, Student Advising, and Counseling. Working collaboratively with the ECE Career Pathways Grant Director, the Retention Specialist helps ensure students receive appropriate academic support services to promote their success.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Direct Services to Participants The ECE Retention Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing an approach that allows for ongoing contact with students to help them access needed academic, financial, and social supports. This may include but is not limited to:

Conduct outreach activities to recruit ECE students.

Facilitate orientation sessions to inform potential students about the ECE pathways and assist with onboarding enrolled students.

Maintain on-campus and Zoom office hours for individual student check-ins and regular weekly meetings with individuals, groups, and cohorts of students.

Assess students' academic and personal needs and barriers to determine the appropriate support services.

Develop resources for students including tutoring, technology, and other services that increase their success in the ECE Program.

Refer students to services and resources as appropriate.

Provide follow-up to ensure students access available services.

Perform deliveries/drop-offs/pick-ups of educational supports such as textbooks, portfolios, and laptops, and keep records of such.

Coordination

Work day-to-day with college and ECE grant staff to ensure the effective provision and use of student support services.

Coordinate with the faculty of ECE program and participate in meetings as appropriate (e.g., select departmental and staff meetings, etc.).

Meet regularly with Tutoring Center Coordinator and ECE Peer Tutor to ensure effectiveness of support services. Participate in EEC-led Community of Practice meetings monthly.

Data Management, Reporting, and Feedback

Perform administrative tasks associated with tracking and reporting of participation and progress of each student receiving services by utilizing agreed upon data reporting system for the grant.

Assist with periodic data reports to EEC.

Communicate regularly with Grant Director by following a regular check-in schedule to be determined by mutual agreement.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

Experience in vocational or academic counseling and early childhood career development.

Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse population and create a friendly and supportive environment.

Ability to assist students with problem-solving and being proactive in reaching educational goals.

Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and adhere to deadlines.

Accuracy and attention to detail.

Available to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings.

Capable of working as a team member.

Ability to use educational technology such as Moodle, Zoom, Google docs, and email.

Ability to adhere to the College's strict confidentiality guidelines and FERPA regulations.

Valid Massachusetts Driver's license, and ability to travel throughout the Massachusetts region/area.

Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

Bilingual in Portuguese and/or Spanish.

Additional Information: COMPENSATION:

$35.31 per hour, 24 hours per week. Part-time, benefited, grant-funded. MCCC Unit position.
