Section Chief of Vascular Surgery and Director of Aortic Center
The Department of Surgery at Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (CC‑VTCSOM) in Roanoke, VA is recruiting a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon to lead the Section of Vascular Surgery and the Aortic Center.
The successful candidate will manage a team of six surgeons and seven advanced practice providers in a clinic‑based academic program with opportunities in teaching, research, and clinical surgery.
The position will be faculty at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and requires an academic appointment.
Clinical Setting
The practice is located at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in the Crystal Spring Tower, a 10‑story cardiovascular institute with dedicated operating rooms and imaging suites.
The role includes direct patient care (inpatient and outpatient visits, procedures, and consultations), as well as oversight of the Aortic Center’s multidisciplinary care team.
Administrative & Clinical Responsibilities
• Direct the clinical, educational, and research activities for the Section of Vascular Surgery and the Aortic Center.
• Lead a dynamic group practice that provides comprehensive vascular, aortic, and endovascular surgery.
• Partner with Carilion’s cardiothoracic surgery team to offer advanced aortic solutions.
• Build and sustain integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; manage people and programs.
• Serve as faculty in the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the surgery residency program.
Qualifications
MD or DO
Residency or Fellowship training in Vascular Surgery
Board certification in Vascular Surgery
Robust experience in complex endovascular aortic interventions
At least 5 years of progressive surgical leadership in an academic setting with an academic rank of at least Associate Professor
Evidence of strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Physician leadership experience with emphasis on team building and development of integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; managing people and programs
Experience with graduate medical education is preferred
