Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, GED, or higher, and one (1) year of animal welfare experience. Experience includes but is not limited to companion pet care (excluding personal pets), husbandry, or animal training.
Licenses and Certificates:
Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment. Euthanasia Technician Certification within six (6) months of appointment and a Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within one (1) year of appointment.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, canvass assigned areas to locate animals in violation of animal regulation laws/ordinances, capture and impound animals, investigate complaints, and enforce animal regulation ordinances, rules, and regulations.
Patrol assigned areas to locate animals in violation of animal regulation laws/ordinances.
Capture biting, vicious, diseased, loose, or stray animals with nets, ropes, or other devices, transport captured animals to impoundment facilities, and remove animals from trucks and place them in designated cages.
Complete impoundment reports, investigate complaints and animal bite cases, verify animal licenses and rabies vaccinations, examine captured animals for obvious injuries, transport injured animals, aid in delivering animal brains for rabies examination, conduct animal cruelty and nuisance investigations.
Explain and enforce animal regulation laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, and regulations, issue warnings or citations for violations, present cases in court, prepare and submit records and reports.
Maintain and update automated record keeping and files, maintain accurate documentation and tracking of violations and code enforcement activities.
May represent the department or program in media engagements and public outreach efforts: conduct interviews with media outlets, assist in developing and presenting press releases, participate in the creation and recording of educational and PSA materials.
